From Sylvanus Viashima, Jalingo
Alhaji Umar Mukhtar Gajiram, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Taraba State, has assured the people of Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency that the commission has put in place all measures to ensure a hitch free election on Saturday.
Gajiram gave the assurance on Thursday while distributing sensitive materials ahead of the election.
He said that the commission has learned critical lessons from the last election and is poised to deliver a free, fair and credible election.
“We have taken all necessary measures at the very high levels to ensure that this elections go on smoothly. You have just witnessed the distribution of sensitive materials. This is to make sure that everything is in place on time.
“We have also held series of security meetings both here and in Abuja and we have all the assurance that security will be taken care of, so we are confident that there won’t be any unpleasant experience.
“Let me use this opportunity to call on all the players to exercise caution and play by the rules. It is an election and not as war. I also want to assure the voters to come out in mass and exercise their right to chose their representative”.
Our Correspondent reports that the election is scheduled to hold in Six Hundred and Fifty Two polling units across Three Local Government Areas on Saturday to fill the vacuum created when the member that was elected at the last General election died before his inauguration.
