The World Boxing Bureau (WBB) has presented a special honorary boxing belt to Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, President of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC), in recognition of his contributions to the development of professional boxing in Nigeria and across Sub-Saharan Africa.
The belt was personally customized by the Chief Executive Officer and President of the WBB, Al-Rahim Burke, making Dr. Ladipo the first Nigerian to receive such an honour. The presentation was made in Lagos by Miyen Akiri of Prize Fighting.tv Boxing Promotions, who described the award as a token of appreciation for Dr. Ladipo’s leadership and impact on professional boxing.
Reacting to the recognition, Dr. Ladipo expressed gratitude to the WBB for acknowledging his efforts to advance the sport in Nigeria. He also called on investors and boxing promoters to partner with the NBBofC, describing the current period as an exciting new era for professional boxing in the country.
“I dedicate this personalized belt to every member of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control who has worked tirelessly to elevate professional boxing in Nigeria to its current level,” Dr. Ladipo said. He added that the board remains committed to creating opportunities, motivating emerging champions, and preserving the legacy of the NBBofC.
Dr. Ladipo further emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation, noting that sustained support from stakeholders would help transform the boxing landscape in Nigeria and inspire the next generation of boxers.
The World Boxing Bureau, headquartered in Irvington, New Jersey, United States, is an international professional boxing sanctioning body that provides male and female fighters with opportunities to compete for its championship titles.
