The Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi has admitted 3,706 new students into various courses for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Usman Sani Tunga disclosed this recently at the matriculation ceremony of the newly admitted students of the institution.
According to him, a total of 3,781 candidates applied for admission into the various programmes and out of which 3,706 were offered admission.
Tunga gave the breakdown as follows, 1,022 were offered admission into HND programmes, 2,003 for ND courses and 681 into NCE programmes.
He noted: “Candidates admitted must seize the golden opportunity given to them to study in one of the best polytechnics in the country. To excel and succeed in this institution, a student must work hard, show commitment to academic work and maintain good character. Verily, hard work is the only sure key to success.”
While speaking on the readiness of the institution to participate in NIPPOGA games, Tunga said the management has constituted a committee to work out modalities with the private sector and individuals to prepare for the hosting of NIPPOGA games in the future.
Tunga said: “As the saying goes, all works and no play, makes jack a dull boy. Besides, sports have become a good instrument for the promotion of peace, unity, understanding between people and nations and for physical and mental wellbeing.
“In recognition of this important role of sports, the management has consistently supported sports development in the institution through the sponsorship of staff and students to NIPPOGA games.
“Recently our staff participated in the 2023 Senior Staff Games and won many laurels including Gold medal in Volleyball. This year, our students will participate in the NIPPOGA games at a venue and date to be decided soon by the COHEADS.”
He warned the new students against violating the dressing code of the institution steer clear of drug abuse, examination malpractices, cultism and stressed that indecent dressing attracts severe sanction.
