Warri Council of Chief has said the Iwere (Warri) Kingdom has announced the passing of the longest serving member of the council, Sunday Rone.
The council, in a condolence message to the Head of Rone/Ejeigbe Family of Orugbo-Warri, mourned the passage of Rone, whom the council said is the oldest chief in the kingdom having served four successive monarchs in a row.
While affirming that the council will miss Rone greatly, the chiefs prayed for God to grant Rone eternal rest and imbue his family and indeed the entire Itsekiri nation, the fortitude to bear the huge loss
Rone died on Monday, December 26, 2022 at the ripe age of 86; and following his death condolence messages have been pouring in from prominent Nigerians and international friends and associates of the Rone family and the Warri kingdom.
In his condolence message to the Olu of Warri, all chiefs of the kingdom, family and friends of the Rone family, over the passage of Rone, President Muhammadu Buhari, urged them to take solace in the fact that God Almighty granted Rone the grace of long life, which saw him serving four monarchs as a high-ranking chief.
President Buhari lauded the late chief for helping to maintain peace, amity and development in Warri and environs.
He commended the life of service lived by the chief to the younger generation, and urged his family and children to ensure his good works are preserved, and his memories evergreen.
According to the president, Rone left behind a worthy reputation, which will remain inspiring. The president wished the departed eternal rest, and comfort for those mourning him.
Meanwhile, the burial arrangement released by his family indicated that his remains will be interred at his residence in Orugbo-Warri on Saturday, February 18, 2023. His interment will, however, be preceded by a service of songs at the African Church Christ Cathedral, 5, Odion Road, Warri, Delta State.
Rone is survived by wives, 19 children, including Julius Rone, the Managing Director and CEO of one of Nigeria’s fastest growing Energy Groups, UTM Offshore Limited and UTM Floating LNG. Rone was also blessed with 47 grand children, 2 great grandchildren and several relatives.
