Earlier, the State Organizing Secretary, James Ornguga said the Congress was meant to elect 27 EXCO members in each of the wards and 10 delegates with five at the state and another five at the Local Government levels.
According to him the party has three methods of electing it’s executives namely direct method, indirect and consensus which can only be achieved where you have one person contesting or many but all have stepped down for one person.
Ornguga explained that “Yesterday we received the national electoral committees from our national headquarters who are in the states to conduct the ward and local government congresses that will usher in new executives at the wards and the local governments in our party.
“We have four committees, one was the screening committee, the screening appeal, the ward and local government congress committee and then an appeal committee that is going to look into any issue that will arise from the world congresses that we are conducting today.”
He said the screening commitees did the screening and certified that truly Benue is ready for the congress “and that is why today materials have been rolled out for the conduct of the congress.
“They are going to elect the ward Excos today, they will also elect five delegates who are going to serve as the state delegates in the state congress and then another set of five who will serve as the local government delegates who will participate in the Saturday congress that we are doing to have local government executives.
“We expect very peaceful congresses. We were thinking it would be heated but fortunately we only have single aspirants to a position. So the competition may not be as stiff as we were expecting.”
