Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has extended his empowerment initiative beyond his constituency, reaching thousands of residents in the Sokoto South Senatorial District, an area represented by former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

The large-scale empowerment programme, which took place across several local government areas of the Southern Zone including Tambuwal, Bodinga, Yabo, Shagari, Tureta, Dange/Shuni, and Kebbe, featured the distribution of 200 motorcycles, 210 grinding machines, 210 water-pumping machines, and 2,000 bags of grains.

Speaking through the APC State Youth Leader, Alhaji Nasiru Italy, Senator Wamakko said the gesture was designed to support all residents of Sokoto State regardless of political affiliation or regional divide.

He noted that the initiative reflects his commitment to the welfare of citizens and aligns with Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s Nine-Point Smart Agenda focused on grassroots development and poverty alleviation.

“We are here in the Southern Zone not only to empower our people but also to strengthen our existing relationships,” he said. “This programme is about unity, service, and collective progress for the entire Sokoto State”

The distribution targeted local party leaders and vulnerable groups, providing tools such as motorcycles, grinding machines, and water pumps to promote small-scale entrepreneurship and ease economic hardship. Bags of grains, including millet and maize, were also given to support families struggling under the current economic conditions.

Senator Wamakko assured that the empowerment scheme would be sustained to complement state government efforts in tackling unemployment and rural poverty.

The gesture drew commendation from key political figures in the state. Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala, described Wamakko as “a father, leader, and mentor to all political stakeholders in the state”

Similarly, APC Deputy National Youth Leader, Hon. Jamaluddeen Kabir, hailed the senator’s consistency in promoting grassroots empowerment and political inclusion, while the State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Alhaji Abba Tambuwal, applauded his “unwavering commitment to policies that directly impact ordinary citizens.”

For many beneficiaries, the support could not have come at a better time. Larai Umar, a widow from Bodinga Local Government, said the grinding machine she received would enable her to start a small business to support her children’s education.

“This is a blessing for me, with this machine, I can earn an income and take care of my family.” she said

As economic challenges deepen nationwide, Wamakko’s gesture has been widely viewed as an example of inclusive leadership — one that transcends political boundaries to promote shared prosperity across Sokoto State.
