WAFCON 2026: NFF yet to pay Super Falcons 2025 title bonuses

Super Falcons

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly yet to pay the Super Falcons their reward money for winning the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), despite the 2026 edition of the tournament set to kick off in days.

The Super Falcons clinched a record-extending 10th WAFCON title in Morocco last year after staging a remarkable 3-2 comeback victory over the host in the final.

However, nearly a year after their historic triumph, the NFF are yet to fulfil their financial obligations to the players, coaches and backroom staff, with the promised title bonuses still outstanding.

According to BBC Sports journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, members of the Super Falcons contingent are still awaiting the reward money they were promised for their successful WAFCON campaign, raising fresh concerns over the welfare of the team ahead of their title defence.

He posted on his X handle (formerly Twitter),

“With five days to the start of the #WAFCON in #Morocco, the players, coaches and staff of the @NGSuper_Falcons, despite all I have been told by authorities, are yet to receive their reward money for winning the 10th title last year?”

The revelation comes despite previous assurances from authorities that the payments would be made before the team began preparations for the defence of their crown.
