The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has appointed Dr. Amos Dangut as the new Registrar of the council.
Dangut, who is the current Nigeria Head of National Office (HNO) will take over from Dr. Pate whose tenure will end soon.
He was appointed the HNO in 2022 and has conducted the private candidates and school examinations.
Dangut appointment was confirmed at the 74th Annual Council Meeting of WAEC held in Accra, Ghana.
The outgoing HNO may likely conduct the May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) before leaving for his new post in Accra.
It is not clear among the senior management staff that will be appointed to act as the HNO.
In a related development, the Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has congratulated Dr. Amos Dangut on his appointment as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
In a congratulatory message signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Mr. Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang described the appointment as well deserved and a proud moment for Plateau State and Nigeria as a whole.
He praised Dangut, whom he described as an illustrious son of the state, for his distinguished career and outstanding contributions to the education sector over the years.
According to the governor, Dangut’s appointment to the prestigious position is a clear reflection of his competence, integrity, and unwavering commitment to building a strong educational system and raising leaders of noble character.
Mutfwang expressed confidence in the new WAEC Registrar ability to bring his vast experience and leadership expertise to bear in strengthening the council’s operations and improving educational standards across West Africa.
He also urged Dangut to use his office to promote transparency, drive innovation, and maintain the highest standards of credibility in the conduct of examinations.
The governor further described hin as an accomplished scholar with extensive empirical research publications in both national and international journals, as well as numerous keynote presentations and conference papers that have earned him recognition across the African academic community.
On behalf of the government and people of Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang wished Dr. Dangut a successful, impactful, and memorable tenure as he assumes the new responsibility.
