The Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, is wooing Governor Alex Otti of Abia State to the PDP, urging the governor to consider the party as a platform for his second-term bid.

This is even as the former Senate President has hailed Governor Otti for his administration’s 25-year development plan.

Wabara, speaking in Umuahia, said the PDP would not hesitate to field Otti as its governorship candidate if he makes up his mind to join the party, describing him as a huge asset for any political party.

Wabara said the scramble for Otti is simply because of his scorecard which, he noted, would count for him in 2027.

The former Senate President said that as an elder statesman and a stakeholder in the Abia polity, he had a moral obligation to acknowledge performance notwithstanding party affiliation.

“Abians are now excited to visit home to see things for themselves. Good governance should not be sacrificed on the altar of partisan politics.”

Wabara said Otti’s eventual defection to the party would brighten its chances and restore the zone as a major force in Nigeria’s political equation, asserting that the South East has remained a traditional stronghold of the PDP.

Wabara, who said Governor Otti has returned Abia to the enviable path of greatness as envisioned by the founding fathers of the state, added that his joining the PDP would brighten his chances in 2027.

He said the current efforts of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) to rebrand PDP had made the party a better and more credible alternative for any candidate contesting for elective position in 2027.

Meanwhile, the PDP BoT Chairman has lauded Otti over his recent launch of a 25-year Abia Development Plan, describing the move as a roadmap for a focused “New and Greater Abia”.

He also eulogised the governor over his numerous developmental strides, particularly in road infrastructure, healthcare, education, industry and security.

Reacting to the electric buses procured by the state government for an urban mass transit scheme, Wabara said the scheme would be a huge relief to residents amid growing economic hardship.
