A leading governorship aspirant in Adamawa State, Maurice Vunobolki, has announced his resignation from the (APC), citing concerns over alleged manipulation of internal party processes and a lack of transparency ahead of the party’s congresses.

Addressing journalists yesterday, Vunobolki said his decision followed extensive consultations with supporters and stakeholders across the 21 local government areas of the state. The resignation takes immediate effect from yesterday, April 14.

Vunobolki, who defected from the (PDP) to the APC on March 23, 2026, explained that his move was initially driven by assurances of fairness, equity and internal democracy within the party. He noted that his decision to join the APC was also influenced by his working relationship with the Governor of Adamawa State.

However, he said recent developments within the party and the state government had contradicted those assurances.

According to him, a committee set up to design the framework for the upcoming party congresses was allegedly influenced by ‘government-favoured aspirants,’ resulting in a process he described as lacking inclusiveness and fairness.

He further alleged irregularities in the party’s membership registration process, including the unauthorised use of citizens’ National Identification Numbers (NIN), particularly in Yola North, to inflate voting strength in favour of certain aspirants.

“This reflects a process that lacks inclusiveness, transparency and fairness,” he said, warning that the party risked replacing democratic procedures with imposed consensus.

The former APC aspirant also referenced his past experience during the 2019 election cycle, when he reportedly purchased a N20 million nomination form to contest for the southern senatorial seat but was later informed that incumbent lawmakers would retain their tickets without explanation.

Describing the current situation as a continuation of that pattern, he said there were credible indications that internal party processes ahead of the primaries may be compromised.

He called on his supporters across the state to also withdraw their membership from the APC and await further directives on the next political platform.

He emphasised that political power must reflect the will of the people rather than be determined through manipulation, adding that belonging to a ruling party does not guarantee electoral success where justice and fairness are lacking.

The development is expected to reshape the political landscape in Adamawa State as parties prepare for the next electoral cycle.
