Volleyball League: NVF sets date for second phase

The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has announced that the second phase of the 2023 National Division 1 and 2 Volleyball Leagues will begin on October 5.

According to Chief Martin Melandi, the Technical Director of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, the Division 1 and 2 leagues are scheduled for October 5 to 15, 2023 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna state.

Melandi said 11 teams would participate in the Division 2 league (men), 5 teams in the men’s Division 1 league while 3 teams will feature in women’s Division 1 league.

He said two teams from the National Division 1 are expected to be promoted to the Nigeria Volleyball Premier League after the end of the season.

The Technical Representative said, “I am happy to announce that the second phase of the National Division 1 and 2 Volleyball Leagues will come up in Kaduna state from 6th to 15th October, 2023. The NVBF had to postpone the league due to the just concluded 2023 National Youth Games in Asaba.

 “A total of 19 teams will participate in the second phase of the 2023 National Division 1 and 2 Volleyball Leagues and two teams from the Division 1 will gain promotion into the Premier League as approved by the League Management Committee (LMC).

 “We are trying to create a robust system that will translate to a win-win situation for all”.

Men’s teams competing in the National Division 1 are; Nigeria Correctional Service, Kwara United, UCEM of Enugu, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Spikers and G-Rank of Kachia.

While Olalomi Royal VC, Imo Spikers, NAF Rockets in the women’s category.

11 men’s team battles in the Division 2 league, they include; Adamawa Spikers, Ajase Ipo, Imo Spikers, Life Camp VC, NAF Rockets, Niger Brass, Olalomi Royal, Oluyole Spikers, Sword VC of Benue, Safety Spikers, and Udogu Spikers.
