The Kwara State Police Command has debunked claims that its personnel shot a motorcyclist around Oyun Bridge in Ilorin, clarifying that the motorcyclist knocked down an officer on duty.
The clarification followed a video circulating on social media suggesting that the police shot the motorcyclist.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said no person was shot in the incident.
According to the command, the incident occurred while police personnel were conducting routine patrol and stop-and-search duties around Oyun Bridge.
The statement reads, “Abdurasaq Lukman, aged 23, a motorcyclist on top speed, knocked down Corporal Saka Azeez, one of the officers on duty.

“The impact left the Corporal with serious head injuries and a fracture, while Abdurasaq Lukman also sustained minor injuries. Other officers at the scene immediately responded and conveyed both the injured officer and the motorcyclist to a medical facility for treatment.”
The police said Lukman was treated and discharged and is presently in custody aiding investigations, while Corporal Azeez remains under medical care and requires further medical examination and scans to ascertain the full extent of the head injury.
The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, advised members of the public to exercise caution when sharing unverified information.
“The command appreciates the legitimate concerns of citizens regarding Police activities. Verifying information before circulation remains important to prevent unnecessary anxiety and misunderstanding,” the statement further reads.
