Villagers have fled their homes after gunmen suspected to be herdsmen militia killed the council ward commander of Benue State Community Volunteer Guards (BSCVG) and six other people in a fresh attack on Benue communities.
The seven people were killed when the gunmen attacked Tse Fela in Mbabuande and Tse Akyegh in Ikaaghev council ward of Gwer West Local Government of Benue State.
Daily Sun gathered that the terrorists launched an attack on the two communities simultaneously, at about 3pm, on Tuesday, killing people and destroying properties worth millions of naira, including food barns.
A local from the area, who didn’t want to be named, said members of the community had noticed movement of strange people around the area and raised the alarm, but before the people could escape, the attackers had swooped in on them, trapped and killed seven people.
The District Head of Ikaaghev, Chief Adi-Bata, confirmed the killing of people in his district, saying if not for the alarm raised by members of the community, they would have recorded more casualties.
He called on the security agencies to station their personnel in the localities and also improve on their patrol to strengthen security and build hope to the remaining communities.
Ikaaghev and Mbabuande are the recent council ward of Gwer west local government of Benue State, overrun by herdsmen in recent time, displacing many people from their homes.
The Chairman, Gwer West LGA, Mr Andrew Ayande, also confirmed the attack, saying that the people have deserted the two communities for fear of further attacks.
As of the time of filing this report, members of the community were seen leaving their homes in droves, with a few items they could carry.
