Magic Stars advanced to the quarter-finals of the 75th edition of the Viareggio Cup after a 5-0 pummeling of VIS Pesaro of Italy in their Round of 16 match on Tuesday.
The Lagos-based Nationwide League One side, who booked a last-eight ticket, also learned their quarter-final opponent to be Genoa, who defeated Serie D Representatives 6-3 on penalties after they played out a 2-2 draw.
Two goals from the tournament’s second-placed top-scorer Sesan Emmanuel -six goals, and one each from the trio of Ebuka Adiele, Shafiu Habibu and Mba John Uchechukwu, saw Magic Stars go four matches unbeaten with three clean sheets.
Both teams will slug it out for a place in the semi-finals on Thursday at the Lerici (SP) – Falconara area / “Bibolini” Sports Field at 3 pm.
