The League of Veteran Journalists has questioned the identity of the association organising a lecture scheduled for October 26 at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, warning against confusing the organisers with its organisation.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Banji Ogundele, the league said its attention had been drawn to the lecture being promoted under the name “Veteran Journalists’ Association of Nigeria.”
The league, which said it was established in 1988, disputed the standing of the other association, describing it as a “phantom organisation.”
“We felt obliged to put it into the public domain the fact that there is only one body of veteran journalists here. It was established in 1988 and goes by the name, League of Veteran Journalists,” the statement said.
It listed journalists associated with the league as Olusegun Osoba, Felix Adenaike, Bamiji Ojo, Layi Agbaje, Tunde Akingbade, Agboola Sanni, the late Kola Animasaun, Jare Ajayi, Bose Oyewole, Oladele Idris, Biodun Oduwole, Lanre Ogundipe, Shade Haastrup, Akin Onipede and Bolaji Kareem.
The league said its clarification was necessary to distinguish its identity from that of the association named as organiser of the lecture.
