Venatius Ikem reelected Cross River PDP chairman

A former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Venatius Ikem, has been reelected as the Cross River State Chapter chairman of the party.

Ikem was reelected in a state congress held in Calabar which had delegates from the 18 local government areas of the state.

Announcing the results, Rt Hon Jones Onyeriri, the chairman of the electoral panel, said Venatius Ikem emerged as state chairman with 1509 votes.

In his acceptance speech, the newly reelected chairman said going forward, they hope to correct their mistakes and do better for the party.

“Going forward, we hope to correct our mistakes and do better for the party.

“It’s time to put our house together, begin to rebuild the party and prepare for the task ahead.

“We did a lot to sustain the party to where it is in the state and with this new mandate, it’s a new charge to rethink our vision for the party,” he said.

He thanked the Congress committee for undertaking their assignment with diligence and said they should not be surprised when they come back and Cross River becomes a PDP state.

Dignitaries who graced the 2025 state congress include Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, the lawmaker representing Cross River North in the National Assembly as well as Hon Godwin Offiono, member representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency.

Others include Senator Sandy Onor, Professor Zana Akpagu as well as former deputy governor of Cross River State Efiok Cobham.

The state congress was also monitored by the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Cross River State, Johnson Alalibo.
