The Edo State Police Command has said it has deployed its men to the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin City to prevent further destruction.

This was contained in a statement signed by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, and made available to journalists in Benin.

Recall that the secretariat of the ADC, located at Ogbelaka, Benin, was allegedly vandalised by suspected thugs.

Ikoedem said the command received a distress call and swung into action by mobilising its men to the scene.

According to her, “The Edo State Police Command has confirmed an incident of malicious damage and thuggery at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) State Secretariat in Benin City.

“The incident occurred at about 2055hrs of 4th February 2026. Following a distress call received from the Control Room, Benin, reporting that suspected hoodlums had invaded the party’s premises and were destroying properties, police operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene to restore normalcy.

“Preliminary assessment revealed malicious damage to flags and two shattered windows in the premises.

“Security has since been deployed to the area to forestall further attacks, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.”

While commending those who called in to report the incident to the police, she warned those bent on causing unrest in the state to desist.

“The command appreciates the prompt call that was made to the Control Room, which saved the day, encourages everyone in distress to do the same through its dedicated lines, and warns miscreants against such heinous acts, as anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” Ikoedem said.
