With a 1-0 victory over Sunderland on Wednesday, defender Virgil van Dijk put Liverpool back in the race to earn a spot in the Champions League.
Sunderland suffered their first Premier League home loss of the season thanks to a goal from Reds skipper Van Dijk in the second half.
With their second victory in their past eight league games, sixth-place Liverpool closed the gap to three points behind fourth-place Manchester United and two points ahead of fifth-place Chelsea.
