From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri
The late Dr. Paschal Dozie’s giant strides in Nigeria’s banking and financial industry were encapsulated, recently, when Governor Hope Uzodimma commissioned Access Bank’s new regional head office in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The two-storey building, located close to the prestigious Concord Hotel, at the choice World Bank area of the Owerri metropolis, was named after the boardroom czar, who strode Nigeria’s financial landscape like a colossus.
Speaking at the unveiling of the facility, which features would leave other competitors green with envy, Deputy Managing Director of the bank, Chizoma Okoli, affirmed the strategic location of the branch and its significance to Imo State.
She said: “It is with profound honour and gratitude that I welcome you all to this historic occasion, the official commissioning of the Access Bank Owerri Regional Office and the unveiling of the Pascal Gabriel Dozie Signage. Today marks not only a milestone for Access Bank, but a significant moment for Imo State, and the entire Nigerian financial ecosystem.
“Access Bank’s growth story is one of vision, resilience, and commitment to service. And so, it is most fitting that this new regional office is being named in honour of a man whose life’s work embodies these same values. Dr. Pascal Gabriel Dozie’s contributions to Nigeria’s financial landscape are both foundational and transformational.
“He laid pathways for modern banking, empowered generations of entrepreneurs, and helped shape an industry that supports national development. By naming this branch after him, we celebrate a legacy that continues to inspire excellence, innovation, and service,” Okoli said.
She also emphasised that opening of the branch was not just about expansion, but consolidating the relationship between it and the state government.
“The establishment of this regional office reflects Access Bank’s long-term commitment to Imo State. This investment is not just about expanding our footprint; it is about deepening our partnership with the government, communities, and businesses that make this state a thriving economic hub.
While acknowledging the state governor’s contribution to making the state investors friendly, Okoli added, “We recognise the significant strides your administration has made in creating a conducive environment for investment, and we are proud to contribute to the state’s growth agenda.”
Customers of the bank had the opportunity to interact with the management of the bank on ways of improving their services, especially in the areas of Customer-Centric Service Delivery and online banking.
Again, Okoli explained, “We have equipped this branch with modern infrastructure, advanced digital platforms, and a highly skilled workforce to ensure that customers enjoy faster, more personalised, and more efficient banking.
“We are expanding our SME development programmes, providing easier access to credit, advisory services, and capacity-building initiatives designed to help entrepreneurs thrive in today’s economy.
“Through innovative products, agency banking, and partnerships with local stakeholders, we aim to bring formal financial services to more households, particularly those in underserved communities.
“This regional office represents our belief in the limitless potential of this State. We are confident that it will serve as a catalyst for increased commerce, youth empowerment, and sustainable economic activity,” Okoli said.
Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Sparkle, Uzoma Dozie, who was also present at the ceremony, expressed confidence that the new branch would meet global standards of banking.
Governor Uzodimma, while commissioning the new branch, promised to continue to strengthen the state’s security architecture for businesses to thrive in the state.
