Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma

… Plans new State Secretariat

From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has assured aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of a level playing field ahead of upcoming elections, while unveiling plans to construct a new, larger state secretariat for the party.

The governor gave the assurance during a critical stakeholders’ forum of the Imo APC held at the party’s secretariat .

Addressing party leaders, National and State Assembly members, and other stakeholders, Uzodimma commended members for their loyalty and attributed the APC’s growing dominance in Imo to its “people-oriented and progressive policies.”

“The majority of our people have affirmed that the APC is doing well, not just in Imo State, but across Nigeria. Our programs have continued to impact positively on our people, hence, the near extinguishment of any form of opposition in the State,” the governor said.

He added: “It will not be out of place to say that the APC is the only party that is really in existence in our State.”

Uzodimma noted that many attendees at the forum were likely aspirants seeking the party’s ticket in upcoming polls. He welcomed their interest as proof of the APC’s popularity but urged them to be sportsmanlike.

He assured aspirants that the party would “uphold the highest standards of internal democracy and fair competition,” while charging them on loyalty and discipline regardless of the outcome of the nomination process.

On party infrastructure, the governor said the current secretariat had become inadequate due to the APC’s growth in the state. He directed the State Chairman, Chief Austin Onyedebelu, to apply to the Ministry of Lands for allocation of land to build a “bigger and more befitting” state secretariat.

In his remarks, Chief Onyedebelu thanked Uzodimma for his support to the party in Imo, the Southeast, and Nigeria at large, stating that the governor’s leadership was responsible for the APC’s “overwhelming popularity” in the state. He also commended stakeholders for their donations to support party operations.

The forum drew several top party figures, including members of the National Assembly from Imo, former deputy governors, Secretary to the State Government Chief Cosmos Iwu, Chief of Staff Nnamdi Anyaehie, former state chairmen of the party, members of the Imo State House of Assembly, council chairmen, LGA party chairmen, and aspirants for various positions.

A statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, expressed the party’s gratitude to the governor and stakeholders, reaffirming its faith in Uzodimma’s leadership and commitment to the APC’s progressive ideals.
