Political economist and professor Pat Utomi has urged Nigerians to turn out in large numbers during the 2027 general elections and defend their votes to bring about political change in the country.
Utomi made the call during a town hall meeting in Enugu, where he expressed support for a proposed political partnership between the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The professor said he believed the combination of the two politicians could provide an alternative direction for Nigeria.
“We come before you to say to you that we have done our research and I know, that I know, that I know, that a combination of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso will deliver Nigeria,” Utomi said.
He, however, stressed that achieving political change would require active participation from Nigerians, particularly during elections.
Utomi called on voters to participate in the electoral process and ensure their votes were protected.
“All that is left is for all of us to ensure that the people come out massively, vote, defend their votes and a new Nigeria will begin,” he said.
Recalling that he celebrated his 60th birthday at the same venue on February 6, Utomi urged Nigerians to make his next birthday memorable by supporting a new political direction for the country.
“Give me a birthday present on the 6th of February next year and let a new Nigeria begin,” he said.
