Useghan honoured with global awards for entrepreneurship, innovation and peace leadership

Entrepreneur, innovator, and social impact advocate Dr. James Oweikimi Useghan has received international recognition for his contributions to entrepreneurship, leadership, and peacebuilding.

In a ceremony that brought together global leaders, professionals, and development advocates in Rwanda, Useghan was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Honoris Causa, by Eagleversity Royal Professional University, USA.

In addition, he was appointed a United Nations Ambassador of Peace by the Global Council for Peace Ambassadors (GCPA), USA.

The prestigious honours celebrate Useghan’s commitment to innovation-driven entrepreneurship and his dedication to promoting unity, social transformation, and global collaboration.

As the Chief Executive Officer of Alerte Universal Limited, he has positioned himself at the intersection of technology, social impact, and leadership development, inspiring a new generation of entrepreneurs to pursue purpose-driven ventures.

The event formed part of an international leadership and business gathering convened to foster dialogue on enterprise, innovation, and global opportunity. Delegates from different parts of the world gathered in Rwanda to exchange ideas, explore partnerships, and strengthen networks that can drive economic and social progress across continents.

Delivering the welcome address at the conference, Dr. Mathias Akinlade, Chairman of Famous Consulting Limited, Rwanda, described the gathering as an important platform for collaboration and transformation.

He welcomed participants to Rwanda, describing the country as a symbol of resilience, innovation, and visionary leadership.

According to Akinlade, Rwanda’s remarkable development story makes it an appropriate setting for discussions on leadership, enterprise, and international cooperation.

“Distinguished delegates, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the international gathering here in the remarkable nation of Rwanda,” he said. “Rwanda stands today as a symbol of resilience, innovation and visionary leadership.

It is therefore fitting that we convene here to discuss leadership, enterprise and global opportunity.”

He explained that the mission of Famous Consulting Limited is to empower professionals and organisations across Africa and beyond through world-class executive education, international collaboration, and strategic business solutions.

“This conference is not just an event,” Akinlade noted. “It is a platform for partnerships, transformation, and cross-border growth. Over the coming sessions, we will exchange ideas, strengthen alliances, and unlock new opportunities that position Africa confidently on the global stage.”

He also commended the delegates for their dedication to excellence and progress, noting that their presence demonstrated a collective commitment to advancing leadership and development across industries.

Later during the award dinner ceremony, Akinlade delivered a powerful message to the honourees, emphasizing that the awards represented more than recognition of past achievements.

“Today, we celebrate more than achievement, we celebrate awareness,” he said. “Awareness of purpose, awareness of responsibility, and awareness that excellence is not accidental but intentional.”

He congratulated the recipients of the awards, acknowledging that their leadership and contributions had created meaningful impact within their industries and communities.

“But this award is not a destination,” he said. “It is a declaration, more innovation, more integrity, and more contribution. The world does not reward titles; it rewards transformation. Your industries need your courage. Your communities need your leadership.”

The highlight of the evening was the conferment of the honorary doctorate on Dr. James Useghan by Eagleversity Royal Professional University, USA. In its citation, the institution recognised his exceptional achievements, professional excellence, and impactful contributions to society.

The university stated that the honour was awarded in recognition of Useghan’s leadership in entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as his commitment to advancing initiatives that benefit communities.

Beyond the honorary doctorate, Useghan also received the United Nations Peace Ambassador Award from the Global Council for Peace Ambassadors (GCPA), USA.

The recognition celebrates individuals who demonstrate dedication to peace advocacy, humanitarian work, and global cooperation.

In addition, the John Maxwell Team, an international leadership development organisation, congratulated Useghan for successfully completing a 13-week mastermind study programme based on the material from leadership expert John C. Maxwell’s book The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth. The programme focuses on intentional personal development and leadership transformation.

Responding after receiving the honours, Dr. Useghan expressed deep gratitude and humility, describing the recognition as both inspiring and motivating.

“I am deeply humbled to receive this prestigious honorary degree from Eagleversity Royal Professional University, United States of America, and the esteemed United Nations Peace Ambassador Award,” he said.

“I accept this recognition not just on my own behalf but on behalf of all those who have supported and inspired me throughout my journey.”

He explained that his work as CEO of Alerte Universal Limited is driven by a strong commitment to using technology as a tool for social impact and peace promotion.

“Our Alerte app is a testament to this commitment,” he said. “It provides real-time emergency response solutions in the United Kingdom and Nigeria.”

The application is designed to improve public safety by enabling real-time location sharing, AI-driven safety recommendations, and seamless communication during emergencies. Plans are also underway to expand the technology into additional markets.

Useghan emphasized that innovation must go beyond commercial success and focus on solving real-world problems.

“This award reminds me that our work is not done in isolation,” he noted. “I am grateful to our partners and the communities we serve. Your support and impact drive us to keep pushing boundaries.”

As a newly appointed United Nations Peace Ambassador, he pledged to continue advocating for inclusive development and social justice.

“I pledge to amplify the voices of the marginalized and promote sustainable development,” he said. “I will continue to collaborate with governments, organisations, and individuals to create a safer and more equitable world.”

He also used the opportunity to encourage young people to believe in their potential and pursue bold ideas.

“To the youth, I say your ideas, passion, and determination can change the world,” he said. “Never underestimate the power of your voice and your actions.”

Dr. James Useghan’s journey reflects a diverse blend of entrepreneurship, leadership, public service, and creative expression. He holds two master’s degrees, one in Public Administration from the National Open University of Nigeria and another in Project Management from the University of South Wales.

A certified banker with experience in customer service and banking operations, he has also demonstrated a strong commitment to youth empowerment and civic engagement.

He founded First Massive Literati (FML), an organisation dedicated to empowering young people and encouraging active participation in governance.
