Three brothers have been arrested in Oslo, Norway over a bomb explosion outside the United States Embassy in Oslo, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.

The blast occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday at the embassy’s consular section, causing minor damage but no injuries. Police said the suspects, Norwegian citizens of Iraqi origin in their 20s, were arrested on Tuesday afternoon.

Police prosecutor Christian Hatlo said investigators believe one of the brothers planted the device while the others assisted.

“We believe one of them placed the bomb outside the embassy and that the other two were complicit,” Hatlo said.

He added that authorities were exploring several motives, including the possibility that the attack may have been ordered by a foreign government.

“This is quite natural considering the target the US embassy and the security situation the world is in today,” he said.
However, Iran’s ambassador to Norway, Alireza Jahangiri, denied any involvement by Iran, saying it was “unacceptable that we are being singled out.”
