The United States military said on Wednesday that it has struck or sunk at least 20 Iranian ships since the US launched a joint operation with Israel against Iran on Saturday.
The US Central Command (Centcom) disclosed this in an X post.
On Wednesday, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth announced at the Pentagon that a US submarine sank an Iranian warship off the southern coast of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka’s deputy foreign minister identified the warship as the frigate IRIS Dena, which was returning to Iran from an eastern Indian port.

Military rescuers recovered 87 Iranian soldiers from the wreck, Reuters reported.
“US forces have struck or sunk to the bottom of the ocean more than 20 ships from the Iranian regime. Last night, CENTCOM added a Soleimani-class warship to the list,” the X post reads.
The command also shared a 19-second video showing a presumed Iranian war ship after it suffered a hit.
The command claimed that the Iranian military has been indiscriminately targeting civilian targets while the US focuses on crippling military facilities.
“While the Iranian regime indiscriminately targets civilians with missiles and drones, US forces continue to aggressively hunt and destroy Iranian missile launchers with precision,” it said.
