A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, has urged Nigerians to shun internal division amid rising tensions surrounding the conflict between the United States and Iran.
In a statement reflecting on the global implications of a potential US-Iran war, Alawuje warned that countries already grappling with internal discord are more vulnerable when international crises escalate.
Referencing his commentary titled “Where Are the Anti-Government Protesters in Iran Today?” the APC chieftain argued that internal opposition movements often become insignificant when national survival is at stake.
“The reality before us offers a powerful lesson,” he said, stressing that when external forces exploit domestic disagreements, nations can suffer “regret, loss, and irreversible damage to sovereignty.”
Alawuje reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, dismissing allegations that his loyalty is driven by ethnic sentiment.
He recalled his staunch backing of former President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2014/2015 elections, maintaining that his political decisions have consistently been guided by national stability and responsible leadership.
According to him, President Tinubu has quietly averted several looming crises through strategic diplomacy, even if such efforts have gone largely unnoticed by the public.
“We often celebrate disasters we see,” Alawuje noted, “but we rarely appreciate dangers prevented before they unfold.”
While acknowledging that democracy thrives on opposition, Alawuje cautioned that periods of global uncertainty require unity and political maturity.

He warned that agitations fueled by hatred, ambition, or divisive rhetoric could weaken Nigeria at a time when global tensions are high.
In a hypothetical scenario, he asked Nigerians to imagine how quickly political and ethnic differences would dissolve if the country were confronted with bombings or widespread unrest.
“Fear and uncertainty would have overwhelmed us,” he said, suggesting that proactive leadership and divine intervention have helped Nigeria avoid severe turmoil.
He further alleged that certain forces had intended to destabilize the country but were thwarted by timely action.
The APC chieftain urged Nigerians to rally behind the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and give the government room to consolidate reforms amid global instability.
“Now is the time for unity. Now is the time to return to reason,” Alawuje declared, calling on supporters of President Tinubu and other well-meaning citizens to prioritize national interest over partisan differences.
He also offered prayers for divine guidance and protection for Nigeria and its leadership.
Alawuje’s remarks came amid growing debate over how Nigeria should position itself diplomatically and politically as tensions between global powers continue to unfold.
