The President of Middle Belt Forum (MBF), Dr Bitrus Pogu has said that the airstrikes carried out by the United States against terrorists in Sokoto State was a welcome development.
According to him: “It’s a very good development. We have been advocating that our government partner with the Americans to rid Nigeria of these criminals.
“Nobody is against Tinubu’s government, because some people think, you know, the sovereignty of this country is being compromised.
“Far from it. There have been negotiations, and I believe our leadership is in agreement to seek the assistance of US, to rid this country of these criminals.

“Some of these criminals are not Nigerians. Sometimes, our vigilantes, soldiers kill them, and you find they’re Arabs who are not even Nigerians. So, what America is doing for us is a great help, which we should welcome, given that for over 15 years, innocent Nigerians have been killed, maimed, displaced from their ancestral lands through this criminality. It shouldn’t continue.
‘And given the fact that they are so callous, the day before yesterday, you saw what happened in Maiduguri, where they bombed a mosque, a mosque in an area densely populated, killing innocent people. Maybe, it is to show that both Muslims and Christians are being affected, or just to show how callous they are, thinking that any Muslim who doesn’t agree with them should also be killed.
“So, these people have to be rid of in this country so that we can have a peaceful country that can progress and get to its expected level of development.
“So, we in the Middle Belt welcome this development. Thank God it’s starting in Sokoto. They selected that target for maybe some strategic reasons. We wouldn’t want to go into it now. But, whatever message it would send or it has sent is good for Nigeria and good for everybody that loves peace.
“And we believe that this government will be a better government by the time it is rid of these criminals who kill people under the guise of religion.”
