The Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Michael Langley, has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for its approach to fighting insecurity in the country and its strategic leadership in the African sub-region.
General Langley, who stated this during his visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, also praised the armed forces for their efforts in counter-insurgency operations and in curbing the activities of terrorists, bandits, and other criminals who previously carried out attacks at will.

The AFRICOM Commander, while pledging AFRICOM’s commitment to continue supporting the Nigerian Armed Forces in achieving their goal of finding a lasting solution to insecurity in the country and the sub-region, congratulated the CDS on his appointment as the Chairman of the Committee of ECOWAS Chiefs of Defence Staff.
Welcoming General Langley to his office, the CDS thanked him for taking the time to visit Nigeria and assured him of the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s commitment to cooperating with other nations in the sub-region to eradicate all forms of terrorism and crime. General Musa also solicited greater defence cooperation with the United States, particularly in the areas of training, intelligence sharing, and easier procurement of relevant platforms from the US.
The AFRICOM Commander was accompanied to the Defence Headquarters by the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Richard Mills.
