From Ighomuaye Lucky, Benin
A group, Talakawa’s Parliament (TP), yesterday, carpeted the Nigerian Police for arresting one of its member, Emmanuel Aigbogun over an alleged murder case.
President of the group, Marxist Kola Edokpayi expressed his resentment while addressing Journalists in Benin City.
He said that the said Agbogun was not in Benin but in Port Harcourt when the said murder was committed and wondered why he was arrested and detained by the police.
Edokpayi said that his member is just being unnecessarily persecuted for what he knows nothing about.
He added that the said Agbogun has been a vocal voice against injustice in his community and based on that, some elements are possibly looking for a way to rope him into a crime that he knows nothing about.
He called on all relevant authorities to wade in as the issue was more about persecution of civil society members for speaking truth to power at all time.
He also called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun to send his men to conduct a thorough investigation into the case with the view of releasing his member from the grip of the police and redeem his image.
