In a bold move towards translating vision into action, the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University has declared a State of Emergency on infrastructural upgrade and facilities at the University College of Health Sciences located at Okofia, Nnewi, Anambra State.
Rising from a two-day Council Meeting and facility tour of the College in Nnewi, and Neni, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Barr. Olugbenga Kukoyi gave the immediate approval for the rapid infrastructural development of the College of Health Sciences
Leading other members of the Council and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bond Ugochukwu Anyaehie , to the 2nd Induction/ oath taking ceremony of the Department of Anatomy last Thursday, the Pro-Chancellor, declared a State of Emergency on infrastructural development of the campus.
He informed the students that they are searching for more spaces to build Students hostels while the ones already completed would soon be occupied by the Students.
The Pro-Chancellor decried the neglect over the years before the coming on board of the present council and management, and assured the students and staff of quick intervention.
While on a tour of the College campuses located at Nnewi (Okofia and Akamili) and Neni, the council members inspected the extensive construction and facilities at these sites.

The council chairman noted that fixing the council meeting at the Nnewi campus for the first time instead of Awka administrative headquarters was a deliberate and intentional act, not only to witness firsthand the situation on ground but to hit the ground running in addressing every teething challenges facing the college.
The College Board inaugurated since 2022 was also activated during the meeting while machinery has been set in motion with a 6 -month timeline towards revitalizing, upgrading and provision of super grade infrastructure to the College.
The Council Members and the Vice Chancellor were received by the Provost of the College, Prof. Jude-Kennedy Emejulu. Other internal council members present during the tour included Prof. Pius Okoye, Prof Kenneth Oraegbunam, Prof. Igwebuike Onyiorah, Prof. Tracie Utoh-Ezeajughi representing the Senate. Others included Dr Ndubisi Nwobu, Prof. Paul Okolie and Engr. Iyke Onwuemene representing the Congregation and Convocation.
