The University of Ibadan (UI) has introduced new guidelines governing the collection of Statements of Result and certificates by its graduates, including penalties for delayed collection and the shredding of certificates left unclaimed for more than 10 years.
The guidelines were contained in a special bulletin dated September 15, 2026, signed by the university’s Registrar, Mr Ganiyu Saliu.
Under the new rules, graduates are required to collect their Statements of Result within six months of being notified that the documents are ready.
The university said graduates who fail to collect their Statements of Result within the stipulated period would pay a ₦2,500 non-collection penalty before the document is released.
According to the institution, Statements of Result will remain valid for two years from their respective dates of issuance and will serve as interim evidence of graduation pending the collection of certificates.
The university said graduates are expected to collect their certificates within the validity period of their Statements of Result.
UI said certificates would be available for collection from the date of convocation until one year afterwards.
During the initial one-year period, graduates will pay a ₦7,500 statutory fee for the issuance and collection of their certificates.

However, certificates collected after the first year will attract additional non-collection penalties.
The university stated that graduates collecting their certificates after one year but within five years would pay a ₦25,000 penalty.
Those collecting certificates after five years but within 10 years would pay a ₦50,000 penalty.
The institution stressed that the penalties are separate from the ₦7,500 statutory certificate issuance and collection fee.
The university warned that certificates that remain uncollected for more than 10 years would be liable to shredding.
It advised graduates and other relevant stakeholders to take note of the new guidelines and comply with the stipulated requirements.
The university also reiterated that while Statements of Result serve as interim records, certificates remain the institution’s official and permanent evidence of graduation and qualification.
