The management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), has disclosed that the university has commenced admission for the 2022/2023 academic year.

This is just as it disclosed that it had gotten approval and accreditation of the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Clement Odunayo, disclosed this at the weekend during a press conference to intimate members of the public with some landmark achievements of the University in the last couple of weeks.

“I got a letter from the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council (dated 17th August 2022) informing the Vice-Chancellor of the approval and accreditation of UNIOSUN’s Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme. It is heartwarming to note that the NMDC not only approved the MBBS programme but also increased the admission quota for the programme from 50 to 100.

“Beyond this, still impressed with our teaching resources and facilities, the Council hinted that the 100-quota could even be increased further if we can address just two minor deficiencies within six months,” the VC added.

Prof Odunayo who commended Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for his support and encouragement, disclosed further that the university had six grants amounting to about 300,000USD in the last eight months.

“Professor Clement Adebooye also lead a team that won $56,000 for a project titled: “Regeneration and Duplicate Conservation of the Seed Resources of Indigenous Vegetables and Local Legumes of Nigeria.

“For the first time in the history of the university, three researchers from our university won the TETfund National Research Fund Grant,” he stated.

The university also disclosed its readiness to hold a maiden memorial lecture in honour of the pioneer Provost of its College of Health Sciences, the late Prof Taiwo Adewole.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of UNIOSUN, Ademola Adesoji, on Sunday, stated that the lecture would hold on Monday, 5th of September at the University’s main auditorium in Osogbo.

“The memorial lecture themed “Molecular Biology resource-Constrained Settings in the 21st Century: Feasibilities, Realities and Impacts,” will be delivered by a Professor of Cellular and Molecular Parasitology and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State, Professor Roseangela Nwuba,” the statement added.
