UNIMED promotes five Readers to Professors

The Governing Council of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo has promoted five of its Readers to Professors.

This was announced at the extraordinary meeting of the Governing Council held on Wednesday.

The Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr Isaac Oluyi said the Governing Council ratified the promotion of the Readers to the rank of full Professors and a senior lecturer to an Associate Professor.

The Professors include Lawal Adewale Oyeneyin (Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology), Michael Olumide Gbala (Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology), Joshua Olajire Babayemi (Department of Biosciences and Biotechnology), Esosa Samuel Uhumwangho (Department of Biochemistry) and Adegbiji Waheed Atilade (Department of Surgery).

Also, Dr Kayode Olayiwola Adepoju of the department of Health Information Management was promoted from the position of senior lecturer to Reader.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe described the promotions as a testament to sustained academic excellence and meaningful contributions to society.

She noted that the scholars have distinguished themselves through rigorous scholarship, impactful research and dedicated service to both the university and the wider community.

According to her, the elevation is not only a reward for years of hardwork but also an acknowledgment of the vital roles the beneficiaries continue to play in advancing knowledge and strengthening the institution’s reputation.

She emphasized that their achievements reflect the university’s commitment to fostering academic distinction and innovation.

Prof Adejuyigbe congratulated the newly promoted scholars, urging them to see the promotion as a call to greater responsibility.

She encouraged them to sustain their momentum and continue pushing the boundaries of research and professional practice.

“The university and the global community need your expertise now more than ever,” she stated, adding that their continued dedication will inspire younger academics and contribute significantly to national development.

While the promotion of the Professors took retroactive effect from 1st October, 2023, that of the Reader took effect from 15th April,2026.
