The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, has graduated 90 students from its Professional Diploma in Health Assistance and Caregiving programme.

At its maiden graduation ceremony, the university reinforced its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery through skilled manpower development.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof Patrick Osho, described the occasion as both a celebration of academic achievement and a testament to the character of the graduates.

“This graduation ceremony is not only a recognition of academic success but also a reflection of your compassion, resilience and commitment to service,” he said.

Dr Osho noted that the programme was designed to equip students with the practical skills required to function effectively on the frontline of care.

He added that their roles would be instrumental in restoring dignity and providing comfort to patients across diverse healthcare settings.

“The University remains committed to producing professionals who combine technical competence with empathy. You are therefore urged to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and excellence in your careers,” he stated.

In his remarks, the Director of the Programme, Prof C. J. Olowookere, described caregiving as a vocation that extends beyond routine clinical responsibilities.

“Caregiving is a calling. Caregivers serve not only as healthcare providers but also as companions, advocates and sources of hope to vulnerable individuals,” he said, emphasising the importance of compassion, patience and ethical conduct in practice.

He further encouraged the graduates to embrace lifelong learning and prioritise self-care, noting that continuous professional development remains essential in an evolving healthcare landscape.

The ceremony featured the formal conferment of diplomas on all the 90 graduands.
