Ondo State government-owned University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) has commenced the payment of new minimum wage for all its categories of workers.
This, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr Isaac Oluyi said was in fulfilment of the promise made by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe when she assumed office on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
Oluyi in a statement said the decision to pay the new minimum wage was to prioritise the welfare of staff of the university.
He said “the university has commenced the payment of the 2024 minimum wage and its consequential adjustment to both academic and non-academic staff. It was effected with October 2025 salary.”

This development, Oluyi said would further motivate the workers of the university to give their best to the upliftment of the institution.
The Chairman, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU), Mr O.G Abayomi who confirmed the development said thanked the Vice Chancellor for fulfilling her promise.
Also, the chairman of the university’s chapter of the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), Mr Adebayo Moses appreciated the management for the gesture.
He said “this gesture reflects true leadership and respect for the workforce. It will foster motivation, trust and institutional harmony. The consensus among staff is that the Vice-Chancellor is a trusted leader who is committed to the welfare of staff.”
