The Governing Council, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka has approved the appointment of 52 professors.
According to the university, the council has approved the promotions, appointments, as well as confirmation, upgrade and re-designation of appointments, of academic and non-teaching members of staff.
Among the Associate Professors elevated to the professorial rank by the council were two former chairmen, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) UNILAG branch, Dr. Oghenekaro Ogbinaka and Dr. Dele Ashiru.
Ogbinaka was promoted as a professor of Philosophy and Ashiru was appointed professor of Political Science.

The council also appointed Dr. Ibitayo Samuel Popoola as professor of Mass Communication and Dr. Theresa Ifeoma Amobi as a professor of Journalism and Media Studies.
The Chief Wole Olanipekun led council also approved the promotion of 45 Senior Lectures to Associate Professors.
The appointment of new staff in various faculties, distance learning institutes and centres were approved by the governing council while over 50 non teaching staff were promoted to their next level.
