UNILAG management issues 7-day ultimatum to SSANU

  • Halt congress convened by former chairmen

By Gabriel Dike

The crisis rocking the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) University of Lagos branch took a new twist when the management of the institution gave the exco of the union seven days ultimatum to summon congress.
The decision by the university management was taken to avert a major clash between the current exco led by Mr. Akintomiwa Adekola and two former chairmen of the union who convened congress last week after securing over 200 signatures.
Daily Sun gathered that UNILAG Registrar, Dr. (Mrs) Taiwo Ipaye stepped in, called off the congress summoned by the former chairmen and invited the two factions to a meeting in her office.
After listening to both parties, the registrar gave the current exco seven days ultimatum to convene congress to deliberate on the forthcoming election and the composition of the electorate committee.
