University of Lagos Alumni Association has announced the passing of Mr. Isaac Ayotunde Awobiyi, its former national publicity secretary.
A statement by the National Executive Council (NEC) and the Board of Trustees, said the veteran journalist and Fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (FNGE), Mr. Awobiyi, popularly referred to as Tunde, passed on during a brief illness in the early hours of Sunday, December 28, 2025. He was 74 years old.
The late Mr. Awobiyi hailed from Ilesa, Osun State and was a 1978 graduate of Mass Communication, University of Lagos. He was elected Public Relations Officer of the University of Lagos Students Union (ULSU) 1975/76 and in later years served again as National Publicity Secretary, UNILAG Alumni Association. He began his journalism career at The Punch Newspapers and was the Assistant Features Editor and later moved to the Daily Times of Nigeria where he rose to become the Editor
