The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has pledged to support the University of Jos to ensure that Nigerian students experience the best Nigerian University Games (NUGA) ever.

He gave the assurance while receiving the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja on Tuesday.

He described NUGA as an important event that should be supported by everyone, promising to do whatever he can to support UNIJOS to host a memorable and remarkable 27th edition of NUGA 2025.

The Vice-Chancellor had earlier briefed the APC National Chairman on preparations for the games and solicited his support to make it successful.

While thanking the Federal Government for the assistance received towards hosting the games thus far, he said the institution was seeking additional support because of its desire to make NUGA 2025 memorable.

Meanwhile, officials of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) have expressed satisfaction with the level of preparations for the 27th edition of the games, which will be held at the University of Jos from Thursday, November 6 to Monday, November 18, 2025.

Speaking during an inspection of facilities under construction for the games, NUGA’s Chairman (Technical), Prof. Garba Yakasai, said the facilities were about 90 per cent ready, expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the facilities.

Accompanied by the association’s Secretary, Mr. Yunusa Bazza, he expressed optimism that the facilities would be ready for the games.

Yakasai, who was taken round the facilities by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, commended the quality of work at the indoor sports hall, describing it as one of its kind in any university in Nigeria.

“We are very impressed by the quality of work; it is very solid and it will last a long time,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor, who is the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, explained that the university is providing world-class facilities for the games in her desire to make NUGA 2025 the best organised in history.

According to him, “We desire to make NUGA 2025 go down in history, not just in terms of organisation, but also for the long-term benefits for sports, the economy and tourism development in the country.”

Other members of the LOC who conducted the team round include a former Director-General of the National Sports Commission, HRH Alhassan Yakmut, Chairman of Sports UNIJOS, Prof. Ishaya Pam.

Over 10,000 athletes and officials are expected to participate in the games, which were last held in 2021, hosted by the University of Lagos.
