Operatives of the Plateau State Police Command have arrested another suspect over the alleged mob killing of University of Jos graduate Ibrahim Mbaya, also known as “Ibee”.
Mbaya was lynched over allegations that he stole an iPhone.
The police said they are also intensifying efforts to arrest all those involved in the incident and bring them to justice.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Alfred Alabo, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Jos, described the arrest as another major breakthrough in the command’s ongoing investigation into the tragic incident, which sparked widespread outrage.
According to Alabo, detectives acting on credible intelligence arrested Yusuf Christopher Beskeni, aged 24, for his alleged involvement in the incident.
Preliminary investigations and evidence gathered so far, according to the police, indicate that the suspect played an active role in the unlawful assault on the deceased.

The statement said that Beskeni was implicated in tying Mbaya to a pole while others subjected him to severe torture, which led to his death.
The statement said: “The suspect allegedly played an active role in the unlawful assault on the deceased. He is specifically alleged to have participated in tying the deceased to a pole while he was subjected to severe torture by members of the mob, an act which ultimately resulted in the victim’s death.”
“The suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting investigators, while efforts have been intensified to track down other suspects who remain at large.”
Alabo quoted the acting Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, as assuring the family of the deceased and the people of Plateau State that the command remains committed to ensuring justice is served.
He promised them that no individual found to have participated in the torture and eventual death of Mbaya would escape prosecution.
