The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in collaboration with its partners and the Katsina State government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of a N900 million ultra-modern medical warehouse in the Katsina.

The Katsina State government will contribute 15 per cent of the total contract sum, according to the UNICEF Health Specialist from the Kano field office, Dr. Saudat Bashir, and the project is expected to be completed in December 2023.

According to her, “we are a digital era and we have seen where a lot of drugs lose their potency when they are not properly kept.

“The medical warehouse is also going to be beneficial to the people of the state, especially women and children.

“We are hoping that when completed, the ultra-modern warehouse will ensure quality assurance of the medicines.

“The idea for the upgrade of the existing warehouse is to make it a modern system, especially in the area of drugs supply and distribution.”

She noted that with the development, there will be additional advantage of accountability in the system of supply and distribution of drugs and other medical consumables.

Moreover, according to her, there will also be a quality data process in documentation, “which means there won’t be paper-based documentation again.”
