Ten final-year students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Calabar, UNICAL, have been awarded the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, IMechE, Student Hardship Grant for the 2025/2026 academic session in recognition of their academic excellence and financial need.
Each beneficiary will receive four hundred pounds sterling (£400), amounting to a total of four thousand pounds sterling (£4,000) for the ten recipients.
According to the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Cordelia Ochuole Omoyi, the selection followed a careful departmental review in line with IMechE’s prescribed eligibility criteria.

She noted that the beneficiaries distinguished themselves academically despite facing financial challenges that could have affected their studies.
The beneficiaries are: Odey Victor Odey with a GPA of 4.67; Afangideh Kenneth Asuquo, 4.50; Ogar Wisdom Ogar, 4.45; Bate Michael Ojong, 4.17; Iro Ifeanyichukwu Michael, 4.12; Nwaogbe Rejoice Ebube, 4.00; Durojaye Kolawole Emmanuel, 3.85; Odogbo Gloria Margeratte, 3.44; Christopher Enyinwa Onwukwe, 3.44; and Ezeh Stephanie Ifeoma, 3.30.
The IMechE Support Network has confirmed that the selected students have been contacted and provided with guidance on accessing their respective grants.
The department said the intervention is expected to ease some of the financial challenges facing the beneficiaries and enable them to concentrate effectively on their academic work as they prepare to complete their programmes.
