UniAbuja showcases four TETFund-funded research projects on energy, health, migration

The  University of Abuja, last week, showcased four research projects funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), which they described as practical solutions to some of Nigeria’s pressing socio-economic and public health challenges.

The projects were presented during a one-day TETFund National Research Fund (NRF) Grant close-out and dissemination stakeholders’ neeting held at the university campus in Abuja.

The close-out and dissemination meeting brought together researchers, academics and other stakeholders to review the outcomes of the TETFund-sponsored projects and explore pathways for applying the findings to national development priorities.

The research projects were led by four principal investigators from the university, namely, Professor Oyinlola Olaniyi, Professor Mabel Evwierhoma, Professor Samson Abalaka and Dr. Eno Ekop.

The studies focused on cleaner cooking technology, illegal migration, environmental pollution caused by artisanal mining, and paediatric asthma, highlighting the role of academic research in addressing critical national issues.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, said the dissemination meeting underscored the importance of translating research findings into practical solutions that could drive national development.

He further stated that the successful completion and presentation of the projects reflect the university’s commitment to impactful research capable of influencing policy, improving livelihoods and advancing sustainable development.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, represented by Dr. Comfort Ochepo, praised the researchers for successfully completing their National Research Fund projects.

He encouraged scholars across Nigerian tertiary institutions to take advantage of future NRF opportunities, urging prospective applicants to adhere strictly to the Fund’s application guidelines to improve their chances of success.
