UniAbuja Council refute allegation of diverting student loan funds

University-of-Abuja-UNIABUJA-1

From Fred Ezeh, Abuja

The Governing Council of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) under the chairmanship of Senator Olanrewaju Tejuoso, has dismissed a recent media report alleging the diversion of Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for students by the University management.

Acting Registrar and Secretary to Council, Sambo Mohammed, in a statement noted that no NELFUND disbursement has been diverted, misappropriated, or unlawfully withheld by the University or any of its officials.

He, therefore, urged the public and all stakeholders to disregard the misleading media report and rely on verified information from credible sources, reiterating the confidence of the Council in the University’s Management, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, and its ongoing commitment to transparency, due process, and institutional integrity.

He further made reference to the official clarification issued by NELFUND, through its Directorate of Strategic Communications that there is no verified evidence to support the allegation, and that the report does not reflect the true position of affairs.

He noted that the University of Abuja operates within established financial regulations and maintains strict accountability in the management of all funds.

He added that the University has consistently adhered to all guidelines governing the disbursement and utilisation of funds under intervention schemes, including NELFUND, in line with extant regulations.
