The Sun Nigeria

Unholy homily from the North

The backlash is an eerie mixture. The throw-ups are a despicable synergy. The good, the bad and the ugly. What awkward alignment!

In one second, it’s pleasantly pleasing to the ears. In another breath, it’s awfully nauseating. Horrible to behold. Repulsive to ever comprehend.

What a life of startling ups and downs. Verily, verily, this sinful world will remain uneven, unbalanced. It’s not entirely new. As it was in the Garden of Eden, so it is now. So shall it be forever. Age to age, eternity to eternity. And generations to generations. The circle is endlessly endless.

Until the end of age, there will always be the odd. The wild and the weird. These shall not cease to exist. As long as there is heaven and earth. And day and night.

For the North, it is just a natural response to the dictates of nature. It can’t be otherwise. The North can’t behave outside of it. Because it’s living inside of it. It won’t be an isolated island unto itself. All alone. That’s the factual truth. And the true fact.

The emerging readings from the North are queer. Their unfolding thought-processes are outlandish. Consider what they are clinging and holding on to. And with all their strength.

Apply deep thought to their postulations being pushed with vigour. They have immense confidence in their potency. They’re not given to doubts. Theirs is absolute belief. And nothing can alter or change that.

They’re cocksure. Their hypothesis will ever work wonders for them. Anytime, anyway, anyhow, anywhere. Past times and seasons proved them damned right. Their confidence is out of this our clime. They are far ahead. And still surging with robustness and sturdiness. Give it to them. They have an edge.

Be not deceived. It’s a new dawn. So it appears to them in the North. On that “new premise” they will argue their case. And advance their cause moving forward.

It’s baffling. But the rest of us must brace up for any eventuality. For it must come to that. It’s a matter of time. That’s the stark reality they have annoyingly dropped on our fragile laps.

The earliest we come to real terms with it. The best for the rest of us all. For the North, it is a done deal. Signed, sealed and delivered. The strategy is perfect surprise. They’re definite about it. There will be a lot of this in our nearest future.

Make no blunder, blame nobody. This is how they’ll fight their battle. Barring all odds seen and unseen; 2027 is the target. That’s their ultimate. The battle line is boldly drawn. No going back. No backing down. No retreat. No surrender.

The war must be won. They vow on oath. It is serious business. A matter of life and death. There’s no stopping them. Their minds are made up. Hard, strong, sturdy. And stoutly too.

These are what they are vehemently staking with great confidence. And they are huge. It was a revelation like no other. A thought-provoking expose of the inner minds of the so-called core northerners. And their infamous “One North.”

Unexpectedly, the author elected to hide behind the mask. He chose to be unknown. Perhaps, “for maximum effect.” Whatever his choice. The message couldn’t have been lost on us. We shouldn’t allow that. He spoke to our collective pitiable plight.

This is viral. It’s trending with great intensity. That is delightful. Heartening, gratifying, apt and congruous. The piece is succinctly christened “Don’t touch our gold –Northern elders.”

It opened up from its first letter to the last. It addressed varied issues threatening our existence. And spoke sense to each and every one of them. None was spared. From-start-to-finish. It did it in a no-holds-barred manner:

“What unfolded is not a policy disagreement, it is a naked exposure of a long-running contradiction that many have sensed but few have articulated so bluntly.

“The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) suddenly remembers ‘regional ownership’ when a gold refinery is proposed for Lagos. Gold, they argue, belongs to the North and must stay within northern geography.

“Yet the same voices are perfectly at ease with a refinery in Kaduna processing crude oil extracted thousands of kilometres away in the Niger Delta.

“No outrage. No moral argument. No talk of ‘resource ownership.’ That hypocrisy is not accidental. It is structural.

“When Bello Matawalle stood before cameras as Zamfara governor, proudly displaying gold bars refined from his state, his words were not careless, they were revealing. He dismissed complaints about federal revenue sharing with open arrogance, effectively saying: ‘this one is ours; mind your business.’

“No lectures about national unity then. No sermons about ‘One Nigeria.’ So, let’s be honest: ‘One Nigeria’ is selectively invoked. It appears when southern resources are on the table, and disappears the moment northern resources come into play.

“If oil were discovered in commercial quantities in Sokoto, Zamfara or Katsina (states), there would be no ambiguity. No pipelines stretching southward. No refineries conveniently relocated. No talk of national entitlement. Not a single drop would move without northern control. Everyone knows this, including those pretending otherwise.

“What makes this moment dangerous is not the gold refinery debate itself but the growing awareness it has triggered. People are no longer arguing from emotion alone; they are connecting patterns. They are seeing how access, ownership and power are negotiated differently depending on who holds the resource.”

And the narrator changed the narratives for them. It sweetened our bellies. He became more down-to-earth. He exploded louder, clearer:

“And this is where the real shock lies: the assumption that the South will always accept this imbalance is collapsing. This is not noise. It is pressure building beneath the surface, political, economic and psychological.

“Treating southern intelligence as disposable, assuming grievances will forever be swallowed in the name of unity, is a strategic miscalculation.

“History is unforgiving to those who mistake silence for stupidity.

“A political tsunami does not announce itself with slogans. It begins when people stop believing the story they’ve been told and start asking who truly benefits from it.”

Its footnote: “Author unknown – Non est factum (not my deed).”

The piece is a riddle to sturdy. A puzzle of a kind. It’s highly infested with deep-rooted deceit. Loaded with glaring contradictions. It can ignite fire without prompting. The intention is parochial by a clique of small-minded characters.

Every word of the piece is potent with high explosives and landmines. It exposed the North as calling out for outright war.

The issues raised here should be sincerely interrogated. We shouldn’t ignore them. It can trigger dire consequences. Frightful, dreadful, and to our detriment.

What the North is advocating here are being made possible by the Southerners. It beats one hollow to the marrows. How are Northerners able to make moles out of Yoruba, Igbo, others, plant them in our midst?

And we have not be able to do the same to them. What’s actually wrong with us? We play into their hands ceaselessly and seamlessly with great ease. Whereas, they never fall for us. They cannot stake their necks for us.

But we do same for them on gold platter. And with our whole being. We need to address our minds seriously and thoroughly to this. It is not laughable. It is extremely painful and bewildering. They use and dump us. Yet, we keep submitting to them. Like lamb being led to the slaughter.

Let’s stop being “mumu” to the North. “Our mumu don do.” Let us part ways peacefully. To our tents. If that we put a permanent stop to all these disturbing, disgusting shenanigans.

Now that everybody feels deeply aggrieved. It’s the best time to address our grievances. It is a golden chance. We must not waste it now. It can only be done by ourselves, for ourselves. No aliens will do it for us. No matter the amount of dollars involved.

Let’s deliberately cultivate this piece. It’s the solidest road map to unfeigned restructuring. One honest narrow way to unadulterated restructuring.

Let us explore and exploit its letters, words and messages. They will do us colossal good. Let everyone lay his claims bare, naked. Raise query and counter-query. Let every injured soul open up.

Let there be plenty of questioning and cross-questioning. Examination and cross-examination. Quizzing, probing, inquisition, et al.

We will surely get there. Restructuring is it! Nothing but restructuring! It’s the greatest gain of the rumbling diatribe in their North. Their unholy homily we despise!
