UNA addresses deboarding incident at Benin Airport

United Nigeria Airlines has explained a deboarding incident at Benin Airport, saying the move stemmed from elevating passenger safety.

The incident happened aboard flight 50573 from Benin to Lagos. The airline, in a statement, explained that during routine pre-flight safety checks, a passenger failed to comply with a crew member’s request to power down their mobile device, a crucial safety procedure. The company added that despite several attempts to resolve the situation amicably, the passenger’s behavior became increasingly disruptive, including the use of inappropriate language directed at the flight crew.

The airline, prioritising the safety of all passengers and crew members, decided to return the flight to the gate and deboard the passenger to mitigate any potential risks.

The passenger was then handed over to airport authorities for further investigation, ensuring that appropriate actions would be taken. United Nigeria Airlines said it remains committed to providing a secure and comfortable travel experience for all its passengers, reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy for any actions that endanger flight safety. The swift and responsible response, it added, reflects its dedication to maintaining the highest standards of safety in the aviation industry.
