The remains of Hon. Timothy A. Umeukeje will be committed to mother earth on January 6, 2026 in his hometown, Uga, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State. It will be preceded by a vigil mass at his countryhome at Umueze village on January 5.
Hon. Umeukeje was a distinguished Nigerian, a principled statesman, and a devoted son of Uga whose life was defined by service, integrity, and commitment to the common good.
A release signed by his son, Mr Frank Umeukeje, a lawyer, stated: “He belonged to a generation of leaders who believed that public office was a sacred trust and that leadership was first and foremost a call to serve. As a former member of Nigeria’s legislature during the First Republic, Sir Timothy contributed his intellect, courage, and sense of duty to the early foundations of our democratic journey.
“He carried his responsibilities with dignity, guided by deep respect for national unity, cultural values, and the welfare of his people. Beyond public office, he was an educationist, community leader, mentor, and father figure whose counsel shaped many lives across generations.
“His legacy is not measured only by the positions he held, but by the lives he touched, the principles he upheld, and the honour with which he lived. He stood for truth, discipline, and selfless service, leaving behind a name worthy of remembrance.
“Though he has taken his final bow, his ideals endure. Nigeria has lost a patriot; Uga has lost a pillar; his family has lost a guiding light.”
Hon. Umeukeje will be missed by all who knew him because he was a man among men whose life will continue to inspire service to God and country.
