Umahi terminates Abuja-Lokoja contracts on effluxion of time

Not happy with work along the Abuja to Lokoja Road, Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi, has terminated the contract based on the effluxion of time.

The contractor should work within the limit of the advance paid to them, after which the final determination account is to be carried out.

But for the rehabilitation of Abuja–Lokoja Section 4A: CH 23+400–CH 26+400 RHS in Kogi State, contract No 8476 being handled by Messrs Venus Construction Nigeria Limited, Umahi said that the project was awarded on July 13, 2024, and only 33.79 per cent has been completed with 131.15 per cent time elapsed.

To this effect, the minister directed mutual termination of the contract based on effluxion of time.

“The contractor should work within the limit of the advance paid to them, after which the final determination of the account is to be carried out,” he said.

Also, on the contract for the rehabilitation of Abuja–Lokoja Section IVB (Flooded Section, CH 23+400–CH 26+395) LHS, contract No 8490 being handled by Messrs Sailthrough Engineering Service Limited, the minister directed that the contractor should immediately submit a letter of commitment to complete the project on or before December 20, 2025, and the contractor has complied even though the ministry is owing the contractor.

On the contract for the reconstruction of Okene–Ajaokuta–Itobe Road in Kogi State with contract No 7648 being handled by Messrs CCECC Nigeria Limited, Umahi said that the project was awarded on November 18, 2022, and only 2.02 per cent was completed with 146.92 per cent time elapsed.

In a statement, the minister directed mutual termination of the contract based on effluxion of time.

“The contractor should work within the limit of the advance paid to them, after which the final determination of the account is to be carried out.

“Mutual termination of supervisory consultancy services because of lack of funding.”

Contract for the rehabilitation of Lokoja–Shintaku–Dekina–Ayingba Road, contract No 7239 being handled by TEC Engineering Company Nigeria Limited.

“The project was awarded on February 3, 2022, and only 1.04 per cent completed with 188.77 per cent time elapsed. The minister directed the following:

“Mutual termination of the contract based on effluxion of time.

“The contractor should work within the limit of advance paid to them, after which the final determination account to be carried out.

“Mutual termination of supervisory consultancy services because of no funding,” he said.
