The Federal Government has responded to Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe over his criticisms of President Bola Tinubu’s government and his commendation of Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja today, the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, said that the performance of Otti is a product of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to Umahi, if Tinubu did not release money to the governor, he would not have performed.
“If we didn’t have the audacity and the courage to release more money to the governors, Otti would not be doing what he’s doing. And I’m happy that Otti, in my presence, acknowledged that the sub-nationals are part of the national government.
“Of course, we have the head of government, which is Mr President. So every success recorded by the governor, and in particular the governor of Abia State, is a success that the President has offered. And so I want him to be corrected.
“But I want him to also know that, before now, we were never, you know, in the past eight years, you know, of the former administration, there were sheer savagery and no one would come to the South-East. But President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has corrected that. Because how will a zone be totally excluded? And so in the first service chiefs’ appointment, he gave us a naval chief – very strategic,” he pointed out, adding that the naval chief performed very well, that the President had to thank him.

“And when it was reshuffled, he also gave us a chief – very strategic. The ungodly declaration of sit-at-home is inflicting injuries on ourselves.
“So just last Tuesday, the President directed that an Army Depot be established in Ebonyi State. And Senator Abaribe may not regard Ebonyi State as part of the South-East. And that’s when I was governor,” he said.
Umahi emphasised that he made it clear that Ebonyi is exempted from Biafra. So, if Abaribe had regarded Ebonyi State as part of the South-East, he would have known that Tinubu has favoured the South-East.
“I made it very clear that even if Biafra were going to be, that Ebonyi would not be part of it. Because if he has regarded Ebonyi State as part of the South-East, he would have known that the President has favoured the governor of Ebonyi State, and by extension the entire governors of the South-East, by providing an Army Training Depot to tackle our insecurity. This is very key,” he stated.
Recall that Abaribe had accused President Bola Tinubu of incompetence in running the government, stressing that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi would do better.
Abaribe disclosed that Tinubu’s administration had become what he referred to as a “Kabiyesi” government.
