Despite the controversy surrounding the construction of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi, has said that it must be completed within the life of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Umahi made this declaration, today when the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) gave him award for his performance.
The minister wondered why people are attacking the project, even when the project stretches from Niger Delta.
He stated that the economy is improving, adding that a bag of rice, (50 kg) which was over 80,000 is now 50,000.
“The darkest part of the morning is gone. The inflation is coming down.
I remember in 2023, a bag of rice, 50 kg, was over 80,000. Now, it’s N50,000.
“I was enthused to find out that the gross domestic products (GDP) is greater than our population. For the first time, students never went on strike.
“Look at the stability of the nation—- Never happened in the history of this country.
Now, we say that the subsidy was removed. And people ask, where is the money? It’s quite amazing, because the money is here. The Abuja to Kaduna, to Kano is 375 kilometres by two—-750 kilometres” he noted.
He used the occasion to appeal to the people of the South Eastern part of the country to vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying that Peter Obi, who he claimed, was his friend and brother, will not win.
To demonstrate his relationship with Peter Obi, he acknowledged that Obi congratulated him on his birthday and wished him well and he did the same to him.
