The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), Prof. Kayode Adebowale, has applauded research teams from different departments of the university that won the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) intervention in research project grants on behalf of the university.
He gave the commendation at an award presentation ceremony held for the researchers.
Prof. Adebowale celebrated the research teams for upholding the legacies of academic excellence, which UI is known for, reassuring that the university management will continually encourage its staff to engage more in researches that put the UI on the frontline as a research-oriented university.
According to the VC, a university is not merely known for its bricks and mortars but for groundbreaking research projects, reiterating that the academic staff must be constantly engaged in research.
He commended the Chairman of the Research Grants Scientific Committee (RGSC), Prof. Akinyinka Omigbodun for the painstaking work done in scrutinizing the proposals before they were forwarded to TETFund.
Prof. Omigbodun disclosed that in line with his committee’s Terms of Reference, the committee reviewed the research grants proposals and provided constructive feedback to researchers in order to improve the quality of their proposals.
The RGSC chairman added that technical support on different components of the application was provided to applicants and their proposals were considered on merit.
He appreciated the Academic Planning Unit and the Research Management Office of the university for their support in achieving a thorough review of all the proposals and said that the university anticipates that the outcomes of the projects will impact society and further project the image of the university.
The TETFund Board of Trustees had approved the release of N80,850,000million representing 60% of the approved amount of N134,765,000million only for 46 research projects submitted by the university with the research teams cutting across different faculties in the universities.
